Khotang : A tree planting campaign has been started to make Sakela rural municipality an environment-friendly and green rural municipality. As part of the campaign started by the rural municipality, the work of planting various types of climate-friendly plants in public places including roadsides, office premises, ward offices, health institutions, schools, religious places is being carried out in full swing.
About 200 saplings of various species have been planted in Sakela Park (garden) in Ward No.-2 Ratancha under the campaign of the rural municipality. DM Chamling, head of the registration branch of the rural municipality and ward secretary of Ratancha informed that various species of fruit trees including Parijat, Ashok, Gulmar, Kalki have been planted around Sakela Than and within Sakela Park.
People’s representatives, employees and local citizens participated enthusiastically in the plantation campaign. Village head Ravi Prakash Rai and deputy head Birsika Rai attended the tree planting campaign started by the municipality and the local residents were also excited.
Village head Rai said that during his tenure, 25,000 saplings were planted on roadsides, school and office premises, and religious places within the village. “Last year, 700 different types of flowers and plants were planted in the office premises of the rural municipality.
Preparations are being made to plant 7,000 saplings along the Manebhanjyang-Tawabhanjang road, he said, “Lali Gurans, Ashok, Nilmer, Gulmer, Kalki, Parijat, Christmas trees and other plants suitable for the climate and geography are planted on the roadside, office premises, various market areas, public We have made a plan to plant fruit-bearing plants suitable for the climate in the regions and biological plants that control soil erosion. It is expected that this will help to make the municipality an environment-friendly and green municipality.”
Local residents say that the tree planting campaign conducted by Sakela Rural Municipality is very good. Santaraj Rai, a local resident of Ratancha, while expressing his gratitude to the rural municipality for providing various types of fruit plants, said that they will continue to support and help in the labor donation campaign conducted by the rural municipality in all development activities.
Parbat Rai, who participated in the tree planting campaign, has responded that it is their responsibility to protect the planted plants. The local residents have promised to take care of the fruit plants planted in every public place within Sakela rural municipality.
