Khotang: As part of integrated settlement development, work on building cultural residences has begun in the Sakela rural municipality. The construction of archeological dwellings that represent the faith, customs, and cultures of the 13 castes living in the rural municipality has begun in Tawabhanjayang, a tourist destination situated in Ward No. 3 Khidima of the rural municipality.
With a budget of 51 lakh 60 thousand rupees, Sakela Rural Municipality started the building of houses. Of this amount, 43 lakh rupees were collected in the current financial year from the Urban Development and Building Office, along with 20 percent from consumer contributions initially, historically significant home reflecting the Kirant Rai caste’s culture and religion will be constructed.
The house’s foundation stone was placed on Monday in accordance with Kirant Rai customs and traditions, which involved worshiping three stoves. The local Rai Dhami (Nachung) performed the formal work of building the house by worshiping three stoves, playing drums, and performing chandi naach in accordance with Kirant Rai customs. This was done in the presence of village head MR. Ravi Prakash Rai, vice president MS. Birsika Rai, ward president MR. Heman Rai and Govind Tamang, chief administrative officer Mr. Mahesh Rai, and other political parties including the locals.

The municipality’s objective, according to village chairman Ravi Prakash Rai, is to develop tourism by accomplishing the building of all 13 houses and integrating all castes into the municipality. He stated, “We are advancing with a long-term vision of enhancing the rural municipality through tourism promotion; however, in order to carry out this work, we needed support and cooperation from all areas.”
The rural municipality’s long-term goal is to make the Tawabhanjang region its primary tourism destination. Every caste will have a structure representing their identity ready for use in the cultural village that will be constructed there. According to President Rai, the multi-cultural cottages that were constructed with visitors to the nearby holy sites and Tawatal in mind will also serve as homestays.
The houses will be constructed with two levels as per the information A comprehensive project report (DPR) has been created, and guest rooms will be built in two rooms on the top floor. A museum featuring artifacts representing ethnic customs, culture, and historical significance will be located on the first floor. Chairman Rai stated that in addition to the 13 residences that would be constructed, a collective house representing the identity of all castes will be built, complete with a reception hall.

Shantikala Rai, a female leader and other local citizen, stated that everyone’s collaboration is required to finish the plan initiated by the rural municipality. She expressed the opinion that tourism marketing is the only way the rural municipality will look delightful in the future. It has been reported that the rural municipality is getting ready to draft legislation to require all residents to build their homes in accordance with the model house map constructed in the same settlement, following the completion of the cultural village.
