Sakela- After years of endeavour, the Karuna Foundation’s preventative program for differently abled people has finally reached an agreement with the Sakela Rural Municipality.
The Karuna Foundation’s representatives, Mr. Santosh Ghimire, manager, and Miss Geeta Twanavasu (Shrestha) senior official, have officially signed an agreement for a three-years of preventive program with Representative of Sakela Rural Municipality Mayor Mr. Rabi Prakash Rai and Representative Administrative Officer Mr. Durga Bahadur Rai. The Province Ministry of Social Development supervises the program, which will involve three cost-sharing entities.
The provincial government, Sakela Rural Municipality, and the Karuna Foundation would split the program’s expenses 33 percent (33%) each. In addition to the province, the federal government would also give Sakela Government the necessary technical support for the upcoming programs.
This program will pay special attention to minimizing disabilities that may be present from birth, preventing disabilities that may develop later in life, and providing programs for individuals with disabilities that will help them improve and provide a means of support for their families. According to the agreement, all programs will be carried out to improve the lives of people with disabilities, including their education, health, and reach. Additionally, most useful materials will be supplied, including trainings tailored to each individual’s ability and reach. A three-year program time limit would apply. This program would most likely begin on Magh 1st 2080, and last until 2083 last of poush.
According to the Mayor, “the main goals of this program are to prevent and minimize disability both before and after birth, create a foundation for earning with their talents, and most importantly, give a helping hand for education and free health treatment to differently abled people around Sakela area.” The mayor has even promised to continue providing services to all persons with disabilities in the future, even after the deal with the Karuna Foundation expires. The report states that authorized municipalities will carry out the primary programs.
In the local government, where there are few municipalities, there are a total of 4922 cases of handicap, according to a report from the District Handicapped Service Association Khotang. As per the National Census Board’s report from 2078, Sakela is home to 271 individuals with disabilities, out of which 104 are severely disabled and get government disability social allowance.
